The role of a top research university is not only the creation and communication of knowledge, but also the preparation of the next generation of leaders in their fields. Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Program (PUMP)

Throughout its twelve year history PUMP has established itself as a community leader through important collaborations with projects like New Trustees for a New Pittsburgh which connects young professionals to nonprofit boards. Many of the region’s foundations have invested in PUMP programming, recognizing the organization’s important role.

Today, PUMP engages thousands throughout the region and is proud to be the premier voice for the young and young thinking.
 

Pittsburgh Sports League

The Pittsburgh Sports League is the premier provider of adult recreational sports in the Pittsburgh region. Play co-ed sports with the PSL! They offer the following sports:

BASKETBALL – BROOMBALL – BOWLING – CORNHOLE – DARTS – DECK HOCKEY – DODGEBALL – FLAG FOOTBALL – KICKBALL – RUNNING CLUB – SOFTBALL – TENNIS CLINIC – INDOOR VOLLEYBALL – SAND VOLLEYBALL

SafeRider Program

SafeRider provides safe transportation during the evening and early morning hours when special, nonemergency needs arise for Pitt or Chatham students, faculty, and staff.  SafeRider is not available to UPMC employees.

Call 412-648-CALL (2255) for your safe ride.

Call SafeRider for after dark travel:

  • Within the SafeRider travel boundaries
  • Between campus buildings, from local residences to campus buildings, and from campus to local residences
  • When you’re not along an established bus or shuttle route, or
  • Downtown at the Greyhound bus station, on Sundays, and on days when the University of Pittsburgh shuttle system operates on a holiday schedule
  • From  Pittsburgh’s Greyhound and Amtrack stations:
    1. On Sundays
    2. On days the University shuttle system operates on a Holiday Schedule
    3. The day before classes resume after a break or recess
    4. The first day classes resume after a break or recess

Each rider is permitted one round trip per night, and a maximum of 20 trips per semester.

Events and Activites

Pitt Arts

Pitt Arts provides students with the Cheap Seats program (deeply discounted tickets to art and cultural events in Pittsburgh), Free Museum Visits (free admission to many Pittsburgh museums using your Student ID during the semester) and serves as a resource for cultural events throughout the city.

 

Student Life

This site serves as the hub for student life at Pitt, highlighting the many opportunities available outside of the classroom for students to enhance and complement their academic pursuits.

 

Get Involved with the Pitt Community

SORC

The SORC certifies student organizations to officially operate on campus. SORC services include copy, fax and mail service, administration of student budgets, email and web space, public notary, emergency student loans, and snack machine rentals.

Intramurals and Recreation

This site provides information on sports and intramural activities offered at Pitt.

Student Volunteer Outreach

Provides a database for service-learning and community service opportunities for Pitt students. Sign up for their monthly Volunteery Opportunity Bulletin!

William Pitt Union

As Pitt’s student union, WPU houses the offices for most student organizations, the ticket office, and room reservations for student clubs. GPSG is located in the WPU in room 825.

Student Government Board (SGB)

The representative body of the non-CGS undergraduate student body at the University of Pittsburgh.

College of General Students (CGS)

CGS provides services to non-traditional students pursuing an undergraduate degree. For adults returning to learn or new learners seeking noncredit programs, CGS helps students find an educational solution tailored to fit their needs.

Grad Resources

Need help surviving grad school?  Recent studies have shown that the pressures of academic performance, finances, advisor relationships and other factors create intense anxiety for many graduate students, bringing some to a dangerous point of crisis.  Grad Resources provides resources for those struggling under the pressures of grad school.

National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS)

This association advocates for the rights and needs of graduate and professional students.  NAGPS has a threefold mission for the graduate and professional student community in the United States of America: (1) develop and sustain a member network to connect graduate and professional students and their associations, (2) provide resources and support to empower members, and (3) advocate at local and national levels on their behalf.

GPSG Office & Color Printer

GPSG permits the use of its back office and color printer to all GSOs.  To get access to the office, please contact the GPSG Administrative assistant at gpsg@pitt.edu.
